finding my path
A Journey of Discovery and Connection
I’ve always felt different from those around me. For decades, I worked tirelessly to fit in, often exhausting myself in the process. People became puzzles to me, and I found myself captivated by the ever-elusive question: Why? This curiosity sparked a lifelong passion for studying human behavior, and it continues to fascinate me.
My world revolves around my family—my six kids and my adopted nephew, who mean everything to me. Watching them grow and navigate this beautifully chaotic world is both a privilege and a blessing. Helping them face life’s challenges has taught me so much, and I’m eager to share what I’ve learned.
Over the years, I’ve become a go-to resource for parents and caregivers of neurodivergent children. My journey started with my second child’s diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome in 1999. It was during this time that I, too, was diagnosed as an adult. That experience launched me into a world of research and learning: therapy techniques, behavior modification strategies, de-escalation methods, and a deep dive into countless books, studies, and reviews on neurology, psychology, and nutrition.
What fascinates me most is how discussions about neurodivergence have evolved over centuries. Historical diagnoses often reflected the limits of science at the time, but the core experiences remain strikingly similar. Understanding this history has deepened my appreciation for how far we’ve come—and how much further we can go.
This blog exists to help others on their neurodivergent—or “spicy”—journeys. Whether you suspect you’re autistic, have received a diagnosis, or love someone who is, you know how overwhelming the daily struggles can be. My goal is to share insights, strategies, and personal stories to empower you.
Let’s navigate this journey together. Embrace your authenticity and celebrate the unique beauty of neurodivergence.
